Microelectronics Principal Investigator


Nimbis Services, Inc. is looking to hire a Microelectronics Principal Investigator to join our Microelectronics team in Bowie, MD or Columbus, OH. The Principal Investigator (P.I.) is primarily responsible for the technical direction of projects and task orders specified by microelectronics program managers at R&D organizations within the DoD. The P.I. will help specify the projects’ technical goals and milestones with the DoD program manager. The P.I. will transfer the technical specification to the project team, composed of an associate project manager (APM) and development-security-operations(DevSecOps) lead. The P.I. will report to the Director of Microelectronics for the purpose of managing the quality and growth of the microelectronics portfolio, DoD customer satisfaction, product identification, and technical transfer. The P.I. will closely coordinate with functions at Nimbis Services that provide contract management, budgeting, business development, product development, DevSecOps, and information assurance. This position requires a balance between technical development, internal project coordination, and customer interface. The ideal candidate will have strong problem solving, relationship building and technical skills, with the ability to collaborate within our internal teams. 

US Citizen Status is required for this position with potential clearance in the future.


What you'll do:

1.     Manages the direction and implementation of technical objectives related to microelectronics development using the TSS cloud service.

2.    Serves as a project liaison with business development, contracting, accounting and finance, product, and DevSecOps organizations at Nimbis Services. 

3.    Develops microelectronics technologies on the TSS cloud service. 

4.    Works with DoD customers, the Microelectronics Director, and other management staff to identify, coordinate and onboard microelectronics R&D performers.

5.    Identifies emerging microelectronics technologies on projects for technical transfer to the DoD.

6.    Responsible for leading technical reviews with customers including subcontractor content and format. 

7.    Responsible for technical reports and presentations. 

8.    Supports proposal concept development and authorship of proposals.

9.    Coordinates staffing, timeline, and resources for projects. 

10.    Collaborates with associate project manager to track a project per schedule and budget, and against phase review objectives.

11.    Reports project status to supervisor on a regular basis and executive staff on an as needed basis.

12.    Develops and implements recovery plans for off-schedule and unanticipated eventualities.

13.    Coordinates with customers, vendors, and contractors to provide necessary program status and obtain customer feedback.

14.    Supports resource planning and schedule for project/program implementation.

15.    Creates strategies for risk mitigation and contingency planning.

16.    Efficiently identifies and solves project issues.

What we need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university or equivalent years of experience.

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience leading a technology development team.

  • Minimum of 3 years of technology project coordination and customer liaison experience.

  • Experience working in electronic design automation (EDA) workflows.


What we would like to have:


  • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university Project Experience working with DoD or other Federal Government agencies

  • Experience in cloud architecture or DevSecOps

  • Experience working with semiconductor manufacturing or R&D applicable to microelectronics

  • Experience with the DoD microelectronics lifecycle

  • Experience with defense manufacturing
